The Rule of A L S O
The Rule of "ALSO" is an easy to remember mnemonic that outlines HOW to "Take Your Shoes Off." In a frustrating situation that you just can't see yourself around? Remember "ALSO" and make room for other possibilities.
A - Aware of Your Beliefs
Become aware of why you think what you do. Question your certainty and investigate the beliefs you hold that make you so certain.
L - Let go of Your Rightness
Consider the possibility that you are wrong. Is it possible that you are missing something? Or are you misunderstanding something?
S - Shift Perspective
Imagine the opposite of what you believe is true. Imagine your
colleague is right. What would have to be true in order for that to be the case?
O - Open to New Possibilities
Consider what else might be possible. What new approach could you embrace or what new actions could you take to open the door to new?
In the heat of the moment, remember the Rule of ALSO. Watch conflict subside and collaboration bloom.
